The Old Ones are getting ready to make their move.

Chaosium has launched the Gamefound campaign for Call of Cthulhu: Old Ones Origins, a new strategy board game from designer Samuel W. Bailey, one of the designers behind Forbidden Stars. This time, the action goes all the way back to the dawn of time—long before humanity, investigators, or cults entered the picture.

Designed for 2–4 players, Old Ones Origins puts players in command of Cthulhu, Hastur, Yog-Sothoth, or Shub-Gorath. Each god comes with its own units, abilities, upgrades, and ways to cause trouble.

The big twist? Your plans stay hidden.

Players secretly place influence tokens around the map before revealing and resolving their actions one at a time. You might gather resources, upgrade your faction, summon forces, or invade territory—but an opponent’s move can quickly throw everything off course.

And you don’t always have to fight your own battles. Players can manipulate the battlefield by forcing rival armies into combat, letting their enemies weaken each other while they sit back and watch the chaos unfold.

Victory revolves around breaking enemy seals, earning victory points, and unlocking new resource locations. With short, medium, and long game options, the experience can also be tailored to the group.

The Gamefound campaign offers Standard and Deluxe editions. The Standard version includes 88 unit standees, while the Deluxe Edition swaps them for 88 detailed miniatures. Both editions include four large god avatar miniatures, 24 building miniatures, and the Gamefound-exclusive Chaotic Conjunctions expansion.

For fans of strategy games, hidden movement, asymmetric factions, and all things Cthulhu Mythos, Old Ones Origins is an intriguing trip into a very, very old version of the universe.

The campaign is live now on Gamefound, with daily reveals and stretch goals planned throughout the campaign.
