Dazy (aka Richmond, VA-based James Goodson) today released a new single, “Forced Perspective,” via Lame-O Records. Recorded at home by Goodson and co-produced with Ryan Hemsworth (who also mixed the song), “Forced Perspective” feels like a mixtape of your favorite late ‘90s/early ‘00s alternative radio hits–all coalesced into one irresistible track.
The single follows Dazy’s acclaimed 2022 debut album, OUTOFBODY, and 2023 EP, OTHERBODY, and continues to highlight Goodson’s innate knack for making nostalgic sounds feel fresh again. Anchored by a big layered beat, an elastic bass line, and an earworm chorus, “Forced Perspective” signals an evolution in Dazy’s sound while remaining ever-catchy.
After a lengthy U.S. tour supporting Snail Mail and Water From Your Eyes last spring, Dazy will head back out on the road early next month for a run of shows in the U.S. and Canada with Angel Du$t in November and December. They’ll also open for Screaming Females on two dates in upstate New York, in addition to several headline shows. A current itinerary is below and tickets are on sale now here.
OUTOFBODY, mixed/mastered by Justin Pizzoferrato at Sonelab (Dinosaur Jr, The Pixies, Wild Pink), was released on October 28th, 2022, via Lame-O Records (with a cassette version available via Convulse Records) and drew attention from outlets including NPR’s Fresh Air, The Ringer, Pitchfork, Stereogum (‘Best New Bands of 2022’ and ‘Band To Watch’), CREEM, Bandcamp Daily (‘Essential Releases’), GRAMMY.com, Exclaim!, Paste (‘Best of What’s Next’), Brooklyn Vegan, FLOOD Magazine, and The Alternative, among many others. A surprise-release EP, OUTOFBODY, followed this past March, to additional coverage from Stereogum, Brooklyn Vegan, Consequence, Uproxx, Treble, The Alternative, and more.
