Previous Unreleased Concert Recording Captures Iconic 6x Grammy Award-Winning Musician in Rare Solo Performance

Tipitina’s Record Club – an exclusive subscription service from Tipitina’s, the legendary New Orleans nightclub owned and operated by Galactic – is honoring the one and only Dr. John with Solo Piano Live In New Orleans 1984, a previously unreleased concert recording available now at all DSPs and on 180-gram custom-colored vinyl at all physical retailers.

Arriving just days after what would have been the late Dr. John’s 82nd birthday on November 20, Solo Piano Live In New Orleans 1984 offers a rare opportunity to hear the iconic New Orleans musician in a solo setting. Recorded April 27, 1984, aboard the historic SS President (Riverboat), with the good Dr. headlining alongside fellow Big Easy luminaries Fats Domino and The Neville Brothers, the never-before-released concert – sees the 6x GRAMMY® Award-winning master performing familiar hits from his rich catalog alongside some of his own favorite New Orleans classics.

“When we first heard this recording of Dr. John playing live solo piano at the peak of his career we felt like kids in a candy store,” says Galactic’s Robert Mercurio. “It sounds like it was a special evening, and we are so excited to get to share it with the world. Candy for everyone!”

“No theatrics, no amplification,” says Galactic’s Ben Ellman. “Just Dr. John solo on piano showcasing his mastery on this unearthed gem.”
