Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XVI, the latest installment in the legendary Final Fantasy series, is coming to PC platforms on September 17. The game will be available on both Steam and the Epic Games Store. To give players a taste of what’s in store, a free demo of the critically acclaimed action RPG is also available for download on both platforms.
For those eager to dive in, pre-purchases are now open for Final Fantasy XVI. Players can choose between the Standard Edition, which includes the base game, and the Complete Edition, which features not only the base game but also the exciting DLC chapters, “Echoes of the Fallen” and “The Rising Tide,” at a discounted price. If you’d prefer to purchase the DLC separately, you can either buy them individually or opt for the Final Fantasy XVI Expansion Pass, which bundles both chapters.
Pre-purchasing the game comes with some extra perks as well. Those who secure their copy early will receive several in-game DLC items, including the Brave Blade Weapon, the Cait Sith Charm (a Gil Boost Accessory), and the “Sixteen Bells” Orchestrion Roll.
The demo, now available on Steam and the Epic Games Store, lets players experience the opening prologue of the game, set during the adolescence of the protagonist, Clive Rosfield. Notably, any progress made in the demo will carry over to the full game at launch. In addition to the prologue, the demo also features a special “Eikonic Challenge” Mode, where players can engage in more intense battles and test out a variety of Eikonic Abilities.
Final Fantasy XVI introduces players to an original, standalone story within the Final Fantasy universe, set in the realm of Valisthea. This epic dark fantasy world is blessed by the light of the Mothercrystals, but peace is threatened as the Blight begins to spread, endangering the dominions. Central to the story are the Eikons—mighty summoned beasts—and their Dominants, individuals blessed with the power to wield them. The tale follows Clive Rosfield, a warrior known as the “First Shield of Rosaria,” who is sworn to protect his younger brother Joshua, the Dominant of the Phoenix, Eikon of Fire. Tragedy strikes when Clive becomes entangled in a quest for revenge against Ifrit, a dark and mysterious Eikon that brings devastation in its wake.
The first DLC chapter, “Echoes of the Fallen,” offers players new story content, battles, weapons, accessories, an increased level cap, and more. The adventure picks up before the final battle of the base game, with dark crystals appearing on the black market. Players will join Clive and his companions as they investigate these mysterious items, leading them to an abandoned Fallen tower known as the Sagespire, where dangerous secrets await.
The second DLC chapter, “The Rising Tide,” continues the adventure with new storylines, battles, side quests, weapons, and more. This chapter expands on Clive’s journey, introducing a hidden area known as Mysidia and a thrilling encounter with Leviathan the Lost, the legendary water Eikon. Additionally, this DLC brings new end-game content through the Kairos Gate, where players will face 20 stages of intense, scored, and ranked battles against waves of enemies.
Final Fantasy XVI on PC promises to deliver an epic experience, complete with captivating new content and thrilling challenges for both new and returning players.
