Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 came out swinging. Geoff Keighley’s August 25 showcase in Cologne packed nearly two hours with blockbuster reveals, surprise updates and a clear message: 2027 is shaping up to be a huge year for games.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation Leads the Charge
Square Enix finally pulled back the curtain on Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the next chapter in its remake project.
The game is targeting spring 2027 and is planned as a simultaneous multi-platform release—a notable change from the earlier remake entries, which initially centered on PlayStation.
For fans who have been waiting to see how the trilogy concludes, this was arguably the night’s biggest reveal.
The Witcher 3 Isn’t Finished Yet
CD Projekt delivered one of the evening’s biggest surprises by giving The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt another lease on life.
A remastered update featuring combat improvements and ray tracing arrives September 29, free for existing owners. Even more surprising: CD Projekt announced The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, a third expansion for the decade-old RPG.
The move is a reminder of just how much staying power Geralt’s adventure still has—even as fans wait for the next mainline Witcher game.
Metro and Gears Return to the Spotlight
4A Games unveiled Metro 2039, the next major entry in its post-apocalyptic shooter series. The new game is targeting February 2027, marking the franchise’s first major new installment since Metro Exodus.
Xbox, meanwhile, confirmed Gears of War: E-Day for October 6, coming to PC and Xbox Series X/S. The prequel goes back to the franchise’s defining Emergence Day conflict, offering a fresh look at one of its most important moments.
Exodus Gets a Release Date
Archetype Entertainment’s ambitious sci-fi RPG Exodus also locked in a date: April 7, 2027, for PS5.
The spacefaring adventure has attracted attention for its cinematic RPG ambitions and its development team’s BioWare pedigree. Gamescom gave players a clearer idea of when they can finally get their hands on it.
More Games Join the 2027 Lineup
The announcements kept coming. HoYoverse revealed dark-fantasy title Nodusfall for 2027, while NetEase confirmed that open-world anime RPG Ananta launches January 15, 2027, on PC and PS5.
Horror fans also got another look at Silent Hill: Townfall, arriving September 24. Game of Thrones: War for Westeros and Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons also made appearances, although neither has a final release date yet.
2027 Is Getting Crowded
If Opening Night Live was any indication, the next gaming calendar is going to be packed.
Between Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Metro 2039, Gears of War: E-Day, Exodus, Nodusfall and Ananta, publishers are lining up a mix of major sequels, franchise revivals and ambitious new worlds.
And for players who simply aren’t ready to leave The Witcher 3 behind, CD Projekt has provided an excellent excuse to head back to Velen.
