Stuart Bloom gets another shot at saving reality—and, judging by Season 1, that’s probably bad news for everyone.
HBO Max has renewed the acclaimed original comedy Stuart Fails to Save the Universe for a second season. From creators Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn, and Bill Prady, the series launched as the platform’s second-biggest comedy debut ever globally.
The renewal comes after a first season that earned plenty of love from critics and fans. The show was certified “Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes, while Slate called it “the most dynamic sitcom that has ever existed.” NPR praised its “relentlessly, inventively funny” approach, with The Wall Street Journal, CBR, TVLine, and TheWrap also handing out strong reviews.
The series follows comic book store owner Stuart Bloom, who accidentally unleashes a multiverse Armageddon after breaking a device built by Sheldon and Leonard. Now he has to restore reality—with help from his girlfriend Denise, geologist Bert, and quantum physicist Barry Kripke, because apparently saving the universe requires the most dysfunctional team imaginable.
Along the way, familiar faces get multiverse makeovers, and, as the title promises, Stuart’s heroic mission rarely goes according to plan.
Kevin Sussman stars as Stuart alongside Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn, and John Ross Bowie. Season 2 now has the chance to make an already chaotic universe even more chaotic—and fans clearly aren’t complaining.
