Samurai fans have a new nightmare to face. KOEI TECMO America and Team NINJA have revealed Hell Rising, the first DLC expansion for Nioh 3, launching Aug. 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam.
The expansion sends players deep into the Keian era, where Edo has fallen into chaos after the death of future shogun Takechiyo. Joined by legendary swordsman Yagyu Jubei and Spanish envoy Rodrigo, players will uncover new secrets tied to the mysterious Spirit Stones while battling to restore order.
The new Keian-era open field introduces a brutal landscape shaped by the Crucible’s deadly gales. This hellish wasteland is filled with dangerous yokai, human rebels, and foreign alchemists, creating a fresh battlefield packed with new threats.
To survive, players can wield brand-new weapons, including the hoko and shield, available for both Samurai and Ninja Styles. The combination brings a new tactical edge, mixing defensive shield techniques with the striking power of a short spear — and even letting players launch shields at enemies.
For warriors looking for an even greater test, Hell Rising adds the Hundred Demon Realms Picture Scroll equipment category. These rare rewards unlock challenging, replayable battles where players can customize special effects and strengthen their builds.
The DLC also introduces the Enlightened One’s Journey difficulty level, designed for a third playthrough with tougher enemies, powerful Curse buffs, and valuable divine-rarity rewards. Players can further refine their characters with new Grace set bonuses and enhanced special effects.
With new weapons, combat systems, Guardian Spirits, Soul Cores, Ninjutsu, and more, Hell Rising looks set to expand Nioh 3 with a darker and more demanding chapter.
Nioh 3 is available now worldwide on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam.
