Madrid-based indie duo Hinds—Carlotta Cosials and Ana Perrote—are set to release their highly anticipated new album VIVA HINDS on September 6th via Lucky Number. The band has already teased the album with a series of early singles, including “Boom Boom Back” featuring Beck, “Coffee,” and their first-ever Spanish language single “En Forma.” Today, Hinds is back with another massive single, “Superstar,” accompanied by a self-directed music video. Rolling Stone recently hailed “Superstar” as a “soon-to-be Hinds classic,” noting how the song simmers delicately before exploding into an empowering, albeit rageful, rallying cry: “Good job/ Now you’re a local superstar/ That only hangs with superstars/ Carrying the weight of all that fame!/Carrying humanity’s joy and pain.”
“’Superstar’ talks about the disappointment and the pain you feel when someone you love deeply, disappears with no explanation,” Hinds explained. “You feel worthless, you start thinking you never really knew that person and you question your shared past, and if what you remember really happened. It’s hard to let people go but writing this song helped. People need closure, and this song is ours.”
The journey to VIVA HINDS hasn’t been easy. After debuting a decade ago, Hinds faced a significant hurdle—they had to change their name from Deers to Hinds due to legal reasons. What felt like an end became a new beginning as fans cheered “¡VIVA HINDS!” at shows. Fast forward to 2023, and Cosials and Perrote wrote VIVA HINDS after a series of setbacks, including a creative rut following their 2020 album The Prettiest Curse, the departure of their bassist and drummer, a split with their management team, loss of touring revenue due to lockdowns, and being without a label for the first time. Despite these challenges, the duo’s strong bond—so special they call themselves “millionaires in friendship”—helped them create their most accomplished, sonically adventurous, and honest record yet.
VIVA HINDS, recorded in rural France, was produced by Pete Robertson (Beabadoobee), engineered by GRAMMY-nominated Tom Roach, and mixed by GRAMMY-winning engineer Caesar Edmunds (The Killers, Wet Leg). The album also includes collaborations with Fontaines D.C.’s Grian Chatten and Beck. Set to release on September 6th, this album marks a triumphant new chapter for Hinds.
