After a few years wandering through shinier, more meticulous sonic terrain, King Tuff is cranking the amps back into the red. Following 2023’s Smalltown Stardust, Kyle Thomas — the Burlington, Vermont lifer behind the moniker — realized something was missing: fun. While his recent records explored new textures, they didn’t hit the same onstage. Night after night, he found himself itching to rip into the ragged, high-voltage songs that built his name. The answer was obvious: return to Rock & Roll.
MOO, his sixth album (out March 27 via MUP Records/Thirty Tigers), is that reset button smashed hard. Thomas moved back to Vermont, dusted off the same Tascam 388 used on his debut, and plugged in his old blue Gibson SG. He even made a physical newspaper, The Daily Moo, to bundle with the record — because why not?
Lead single “Twisted On A Train,” recorded in a few joyous hours, captures the new-old ethos: loose, alive, and gloriously imperfect. Thomas ditched endless digital tinkering for tape’s point-of-no-return magic. Mistakes stay. Energy wins.
Fueled by new love (yes, even the oil-change song), MOO is a full-circle blast — raw, weird, and wired. King Tuff unplugged from perfection and plugged back into himself.
