Anamanaguchi have returned to the pixelated streets of Toronto with their most ambitious release yet: the 71-song Scott Pilgrim EX (Original Soundtrack), out now digitally and arriving physically August 7, 2026 via Polyvinyl Record Co..
Created for Tribute Games’ new action-adventure and co-written by Bryan Lee O’Malley, Scott Pilgrim EX expands the universe the band first electrified in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game. Recorded at Valve Studios in Dallas with producer Casey di Iorio, the soundtrack fuses their 8-bit chiptune roots with fuzzed-out garage rock muscle—thrash, surf, reggae, emo, and boss-battle bombast included.
Divided into four parts—Toronto, Vegans, Demons, and Robots—the collection is led by the soaring single “United By Fate.” It’s a maximalist, hook-heavy sprint that captures the band’s evolution since their basement-recorded 2010 OST.
Their relationship with Scott Pilgrim has long shaped their trajectory, from early cartridge-coded experiments to cult-favorite albums and collaborations with Hatsune Miku. Fresh off 2025’s Anyway, produced by Dave Fridmann, the band composed much of EX on tour buses using tracker software inspired by classic gaming systems—preserving a beloved compositional artform while pushing their sound forward.
The result? A relentless, genre-defying soundtrack built for multiplayer chaos—and the next generation of Scott Pilgrim fans.
