Marty Supreme is the latest vibrant sports comedy-drama from director Josh Safdie, co-written with Ronald Bronstein, and it’s already generating serious buzz. Set in 1950s New York, the film stars Timothée Chalamet as Marty Mauser—a quick-witted, ambitious dreamer chasing ping pong greatness in smoky backrooms and glittering clubs.

Loosely inspired by table tennis legend Marty Reisman, Marty Supreme takes a bold, fictionalized spin on the era, blending hustle, humor, and heart. Chalamet’s Marty is an arrogant yet magnetic hustler whose obsession with fame and fortune leads him into a whirlwind romance with a Hollywood starlet (Gwyneth Paltrow) and a risky business alliance with her husband, played with comic gusto by Shark Tank’s Kevin O’Leary. The film also features Odessa A’zion, Fran Drescher as Marty’s tough-loving mother, and cameos from Tyler Okonma and Abel Ferrara.

After a secretive premiere at the 2025 New York Film Festival, critics hailed Marty Supreme as “intense, exhilarating, and unexpectedly emotional.” Safdie’s signature gritty energy meets Chalamet’s dazzling performance, already sparking early Oscar whispers.

Hitting theaters December 25, 2025, via A24, Marty Supreme promises a holiday treat packed with style, sweat, and swagger—a wild underdog tale that proves even ping pong can be pure cinema.
