In an exciting expansion of its Dexter universe, SHOWTIME has announced the return of Michael C. Hall in a new series titled Dexter: Resurrection, alongside the previously announced origin story Dexter: Original Sin. The announcement came as a delightful surprise at San Diego Comic Con, where Executive Producer and star Michael C. Hall (known for his roles in Dexter and Six Feet Under) joined Executive Producer and Showrunner Clyde Phillips (Dexter, Nurse Jackie) during the Dexter: Original Sin panel, which is currently in production.
Golden Globe® and SAG Award winner Michael C. Hall will reprise his iconic role as Dexter Morgan in both series. In Dexter: Resurrection, set in the present day, Hall will once again don the mantle of the beloved antihero. Meanwhile, in Dexter: Original Sin, set in the 90s, he will narrate the inner voice of a young Dexter, played by Patrick Gibson.
“We are thrilled to have the brilliant Michael C. Hall reprise his iconic role as Dexter Morgan in SHOWTIME’s most successful series ever,” said Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios. “While Dexter: Resurrection will appeal to the tens of millions of longtime fans, Dexter: Original Sin will introduce a whole new generation of viewers to this iconic series by starting from the beginning, which is sure to satisfy existing audiences as well.”
Dexter premiered in the fall of 2006, captivating millions of fans and swiftly becoming a cult classic. The series ran for eight seasons, concluding as SHOWTIME’s top original series. It has continued to engage a loyal and growing global fan base through encores and reruns. In 2021, Dexter: New Blood premiered, a limited series set ten years after the original show’s conclusion, and it quickly became SHOWTIME’s most watched and streamed original series ever.
With Michael C. Hall’s return, fans old and new have much to look forward to as the Dexter universe continues to evolve and expand.
All previous seasons of Dexter and Dexter: New Blood are now available for subscribers on Paramount+ with the Paramount+ with Showtime plan.
