Michigander, the acclaimed indie rock project fronted by the multi-talented Jason Singer, is shaking up the music scene once again with the release of their latest single, “Giving Up.” Dropping via Totally Normal Records in partnership with Thirty Tigers, the track is already making serious waves. A striking new music video, directed by longtime collaborator Tyler Appel—known for his work with Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness and Manchester Orchestra—has also hit YouTube, offering a visual treat that pairs perfectly with the song’s heartfelt message.

“Giving Up” is quickly becoming one of Michigander’s most impactful tracks, following in the footsteps of three previous top 10 singles on the Triple A charts. It’s already gaining significant traction on Alternative Rock radio stations across the country and has secured prime spots on some of the most influential streaming playlists. Notably, the track snagged the cover of Spotify’s The New Alt playlist and hit #1 on both Apple Music’s The New Rock and Tidal’s The Hot Rock. It’s also landed prominent placements on Spotify’s New Music Friday and It’s Alt Good, as well as Apple Music’s New Music Daily, Trending Songs, New In Rock, and New In Alternative, where it debuted at an impressive #3. Amazon Music’s Brand New Rock and Fresh Indie playlists, along with YouTube Music’s Eclectic Rock, have also featured the track.

Reflecting on the new release, Jason Singer shared, “I was so excited after I wrote this song. It’s an anthem for the people pleasers who are always trying to make other folks happy. They go to great lengths to make things work out in situations where it’s really not worth their time or good for their mental health. It’s a special song for me because it’s self-referential.”

The buzz surrounding Michigander isn’t just about their studio work; NPR recently hailed the project as “one of indie rock’s most exciting stories in the last few years.” Riding this wave of success, Michigander is gearing up for an extensive headline tour kicking off on October 10 at Top Cats in Cincinnati, OH, and running through early 2025. The tour will feature support from rising talents Cece Coakley (October 10-November 22) and Sydney Sprague (January 14-February 7, 2025). Along the way, fans can also catch Singer in a series of solo acoustic sets supporting Band of Horses, as well as performances alongside The Head and The Heart and Crowded House.

As “Giving Up” continues to climb, Michigander is solidifying its place as a staple in the indie rock landscape, with Jason Singer’s introspective lyrics and anthemic sound resonating more than ever.
