Bibi Club–the Montreal-based duo of Adèle Trottier-Rivard and Nicolas Basque (Plants and Animals)–today shared their new single/video “Shloshlo,” the final preview of their forthcoming album Feu de garde, out this Friday (May 10th) via Secret City Records.

The song’s rhythmic, irresistible synths coat Trottier-Rivard’s silken vocals in a shimmering hue as she sings in her native French of “confidence, strength, acceptance of fate, and joy.” “For us, ‘Shloshlo’ is about parenthood, the anxiety of being a parent—or of needing to take care of the strength that children give us, the strength of the feminine, and determination,” the duo explainsThe track’s accompanying visual features Trottier-Rivard carrying her and Basque’s son Noé on her back.

Trottier-Rivard and Basque named themselves Bibi Club in honor of the discotheque in their living room, where their bibis (or loved ones) come together and dance. Their first album, Le soleil et la mer, was featured on the 2023 Polaris Music Prize Long List and earned support from BBC6 Music, Le Devoir (best Quebec albums of 2022), and more.

Across Feu de garde, Trottier-Rivard reconnects with the values that made her the woman she is today: courage, perseverance, sisterhood and friendship. A former member of the first exclusively female scout group in Montreal (Les Guides), she spent years within that community discovering nature and developing meaningful relationships that ultimately influenced her identity as an artist. Feu de garde is in part inspired by these girlhood memories and formative moments, and even features group chants that recall Girl Guide outings in the woods.

“‘Feu de garde’ is an album about the importance of community, kindness, being a parent, mortality and strength,” the duo explains. “It’s a soundtrack to a nonviolent tension, a fire that illuminates. The flames intersect and reassure one another.”
