Indie artist Petey shared “I’ll Wait,” his ne upcoming album’s cathartic first single. The accompanying video, which was directed by Tom Goulet, matches the song’s frenetic pace, ping-ponging between moments of crippling anxiety and the ebullient energy of a backyard barbeque. The video was lensed at the Chatsworth, CA home where the album cover was photographed and features two of the children seen on the cover (and Dolly the dog).
Petey will release USA – his first album for Capitol Records – on September 22.
Petey will also tour the USA – and also play a show in Toronto – this fall. The headline run will kick off on November 3 at Terminal West in Atlanta and include shows at NYC’s Irving Plaza (November 11) and The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles (December 6). The artist ticket pre-sale will begin on Monday, July 10, at 10 AM local time. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Wednesday, July 12, at 10:00 AM local time at https://peteyswebsite.com/. See below for itinerary.
Praised by The New Yorker for his “earnest songs and absurd TikToks,” Petey is a one-of-a-kind, multi-hyphenate artist with heart, singular wit, unique vision and an expansive sonic range. Using a combination of arpeggiated synthesizers, distorted guitars, and shouted vocals, Petey is unflinchingly candid as he examines depression, anxiety, masculinity and heartbreak with his music.
Born in Detroit and raised outside Chicago, he got his start as a drummer with Young Jesus. After studying at Loyola University in New Orleans, Petey made his way to California and began creating songs. When the pandemic hit in 2020 and live performances were put on hold, he began posting short videos on TikTok and Instagram. Petey’s absurdist alt-comedy sketches have amassed over 300 million combined views to date. Oscillating between music and comedy comes naturally to him. For Petey, it’s not really about the medium – it’s about the message and the thrill of creating something new every day.
