NYC Americana band The Wonder Licks return with “Celexa Goggles,” a candid and musically rich new single tackling depression, medication, and the emotional complexities of asking for help.

“I’ve battled depression my whole life,” shares lead singer Jacob. “Having to take an SSRI (like Celexa) every day to be fully functional spurns my pride, but the benefits outweigh any embarrassment by leaps and bounds. I would love to see the stigmas and misunderstandings surrounding the disease lift, especially for musicians and other artists. It’s by the grace of modern medicine that I’m around to make music in the first place.”

The song navigates the process of seeing life clearly after years of distorted perception, described by Jacob as a “kaleidoscope” that warps everything but himself. After exploring meditation, therapy, exercise, and herbal remedies, medication brought a pivotal perspective shift.

Midway, the track strips down to piano and bass—a choice by drummer and Jacob’s best friend Tyler—before swelling again with Pablo’s layered background vocals. The effect is intimate and cinematic, capturing both vulnerability and resilience in real time.

Catch The Wonder Licks performing around New York City soon, and keep an eye out for more new music and videos on the horizon.
