Death just got a whole lot more serious in Gielinor.

Jagex has officially launched Hardcore Worlds, a new permanent game mode for Old School RuneScape that puts everything on the line. The rules are simple: you get one life. No respawns, no second chances, and no easy way out.

Hardcore Worlds offer the full Old School RuneScape experience, including trading, access to the Grand Exchange, standard XP rates, and regular drop rates. The big difference? Every character lives with the threat of permanent death, all while building within a separate economy.

And when death finally catches up, players face a choice from the Reaper: reset their progress and start again, or leave Hardcore Worlds and return to the main game. Players who transfer keep their progress and eligible gear, but lose items that aren’t protected by the usual Items Kept on Death rules.

In other words, every adventure comes with a little more risk.

“Hardcore Worlds gives our most fearless players a way to take on the full game with everything on the line,” said Kieren Charles, Creative Director for Old School RuneScape at Jagex. His advice to players? “Try not to die.”

There’s also more than bragging rights up for grabs. Starting November 4, the Reaper’s Raffle and World First rewards give players opportunities to win real-world prizes by completing challenges assigned by Death. Prizes include skilling pins, skateboard decks, a Starforge PC bundle, a God Wars Replica collection, and an exclusive Death NPC trophy.

Old School RuneScape Hardcore Worlds are available now on PC, Steam, iOS, and Android, with cross-platform progression between PC and mobile.

One life. One adventure. Make it count.
