The album was inspired by the deaths of several friends, tour mates, and family members in recent years. The band members, vocalist/keyboardist Andrew Rothbard, drummer Dave Clifford, and guitarist Joshua Hughes, reconnected to catch up and soon began trading home recorded ideas. They quickly built a batch of new songs and self-recorded and mixed 7 tracks that became Distal.

In the two decades between albums, Rothbard has released multiple solo albums, Clifford has played drums in instrumental post-metal band Red Sparowes, and Hughes has sang and played guitar in sludge metal trio Rabbits. The three members formerly played together in synth-punk pioneers The VSS in the mid-90s. Pleasure Forever released a collection of B-sides and cover songs Bodies Need Rest in 2007.

Distal will be released on digital and limited edition clear and black 12″ vinyl variants on August 25, 2023 via Solid Brass Records.

Pleasure Forever, the band that released their last album Alter on Sub Pop in 2003, is back with a new mini-album titled Distal. The album is a mix of heavy hitting rock, spooky 60s psychedelia, and warped classic rock from an alternate universe, with hints of Krautrock. Fans of Roxy Music, The Doors, The VSS, CAN, Amon Düül II, and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds will definitely enjoy Distal.
