Get ready to snap in your Joy-Con 2 controllers and hit the road — the Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart World officially launched, kicking off a bold new era for Nintendo fans everywhere.
After eight years, Nintendo has unveiled its next-generation console, the Nintendo Switch 2, delivering more power, better visuals, and an upgraded online experience with the all-new GameChat system. Whether you’re racing with friends or exploring new titles, Switch 2 is built for deeper connection and greater immersion.
Joining the launch lineup is the most ambitious Mario Kart title in history: Mario Kart World. For the first time, players can race across a vast, interconnected open-world map with up to 24 drivers at once. The game introduces Free Roam, Knockout Tour, and revamped Grand Prix modes — all designed to push the limits of what Mario Kart can be. You can now explore, compete, or just cruise around the map solo or with friends online, complete with real-time voice and video chat using Switch 2’s GameChat and CameraPlay features.
The Nintendo Switch 2 itself brings major hardware upgrades, including:
- A crisp 7.9-inch 1080p LCD display
- Enhanced CPU/GPU performance for faster, smoother gameplay
- Joy-Con 2 controllers with magnetic attachment and tabletop-compatible mouse controls
- Built-in mic for voice chat and GameChat with up to 12 players
- USB-C ports and a fully adjustable stand
- 4K output and up to 120fps gameplay via the new dock
- 256 GB storage, spatial 3D audio, and VRR support
- A new accessibility suite to support a wide range of players
Alongside Mario Kart World, over 20 new titles are launching, including:
- Split Fiction – a surreal co-op action adventure
- Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition – now with touchscreen and mouse support
- Sid Meier’s Civilization VII – optimized for mouse controls
- Street Fighter 6 – featuring new Joy-Con 2 party modes
- Fortnite – now running at 60 fps with upgraded visuals
Nintendo is also introducing free performance updates for select Nintendo Switch games, adding GameShare and visual improvements when played on Switch 2.
Plus, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members can access GameCube Classics like F-Zero GX and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and enjoy Switch 2 upgrades for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom — all at no extra cost.
