Australian new wave/post-punk outfit Radio Free Alice are back with “Kick in the Shins,” a high-energy new single that barrels forward with restless urgency and razor-sharp hooks. Fueled by Noah Learmonth’s quick-fire storytelling and driven home by Michael Phillips’ knockout saxophone lines, the track feels like a chaotic sprint through the unpredictability of modern life.
The band once again teamed up with acclaimed collaborators Ewan Pearson (Depeche Mode, Röyksopp) and Peter Katis (Interpol, Death Cab for Cutie, The National), continuing a creative partnership that keeps sharpening their distinctive sound.
Learmonth revealed that the song came together by merging two unfinished ideas. “We wanted to create a song you could jump around to,” he explained. Beneath its infectious energy, “Kick in the Shins” explores the disorientation of navigating contemporary culture and the loneliness that can come with feeling out of step.
The release arrives alongside an official visualizer, filmed in the coastal town of Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer in northern France with filmmaker Hannah Murrell, adding another striking visual chapter to the band’s growing catalog.
Fresh off standout performances at Governor’s Ball in New York, Rock Werchter, and Bilbao—where NME named them one of the weekend’s highlights—Radio Free Alice are showing no signs of slowing down. Their packed summer schedule continues with Tramlines Festival this week before appearances at Reading Festival, Way Out West in Sweden, and a return to the U.S. for Riot Fest in Chicago this September.
