20th Century Studios recently dropped the trailer for Jeff Nichols’ upcoming motorcycle gang drama, “The Bikeriders,” featuring Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, and Tom Hardy. It kicked off the Telluride Film Festival with a bang on Aug. 31, earning some serious praise. Look out for its big screen debut on Dec. 1.
This flick takes its inspiration from Danny Lyon’s 1968 photo book, giving us a glimpse into the world of the Vandals, a fictional biker gang in 1965 Chicago. Austin Butler plays Benny, a brooding young guy who’s deeply committed to the club, much like the gang’s founder, Johnny, portrayed by Tom Hardy. Jodie Comer steps in as Kathy, Benny’s wife, who’s been with him since they were young. She’s dealing with the fallout of Benny’s involvement in the group, and things take a dark turn when criminal activities come into play.
Mike Faist, known for “West Side Story” and “Dear Evan Hansen,” takes on a fictionalized version of Lyon. He’s shown interviewing Kathy about her life with the gang, a clever nod to Lyon’s original work. Jodie Comer really shines here, bringing out a whole new side of her with a spot-on Midwestern accent.
The ensemble cast also includes heavy hitters like Michael Shannon, Boyd Holbrook, Damon Herriman, Beau Knapp, Emory Cohen, and Karl Glusman.
Jeff Nichols, the director behind “Loving,” “Midnight Special,” and “Mud,” is at the helm. He’s got a knack for period pieces and capturing the essence of the Midwest on film. Plus, he’s the brains behind the screenplay.
“Bikeriders” is a joint production by Regency Enterprises, New Regency Productions, Tri-State Pictures, and 20th Century Studios.
Get ready for a wild ride!
