Sam Akpro is back with his new single “Chicago Town,” showcasing yet another layer to his ever-growing talent. Out now on ANTI-, the track feels like a dreamlike journey through the mind’s darker corners, balanced by a heavy psychedelic vibe—a contrast that makes this Peckham-born artist one of the most intriguing acts of the year. After the success of his BBC 6 Music A-List track “Death By Entertainment” and being named one of The Face’s “7 Names You Need to Know This Summer,” this new release delivers on the promise.

Co-produced with Shrink and Finn Billingham, and brought to life by his band, Sam Akpro’s music is deeply connected to the friendship and South London community where he grew up. The track’s hypnotic energy and raw edges are a nod to his hometown, while his surreal take on Chicago adds a layer of personal truth.

“Chicago Town” builds on the success of his subversive second EP “Arrival,” which blended post-rock, jazz, dub, reggae, and no-wave. This EP caught the attention of The Line of Best Fit, DIY, So Young, NME, DMY, Clash, Notion, and more, as well as BBC 6 Music’s Mary Anne Hobbs and BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders.

Sam has been touring this new sound, driven by singles like “Death By Entertainment” and “Disposition,” both at home and abroad. He’s performed at festivals such as Amsterdam’s London Calling, Bristol’s Ritual Union Festival, and Ipswich’s Brighten The Corners. Up next is a homecoming performance at London’s Rally Festival on August 24th.
