Searows, the project of Pacific Northwest singer-songwriter Alec Duckart, is set to release his sophomore album Death in the Business of Whaling on January 23, 2026 via Last Recordings On Earth. The announcement comes alongside a Karlee Boon-directed video for the lead single, “Dearly Missed,” a six-minute, heart-wrenching epic that pushes Duckart’s acoustic roots into electrifying guitars and drums.

Duckart describes the track as his take on the “good for her” horror genre, exploring societal issues through cathartic storytelling for marginalized voices.

While Death in the Business of Whaling is Searows’ second album, it marks a series of firsts: his first recording outside his bedroom, this time in a converted Seattle horse barn, and his first collaboration with co-producer Trevor Spencer (Father John Misty, Beach House). Touring his earlier works—Guard DogEnd Of The World, and flush—informed the album’s expansive musical and lyrical direction.

Duckart’s new songs lean into folklore-like storytelling, symbolic rather than literal, reflecting on the human condition, trauma, love, fate, and connection. Death in the Business of Whaling promises a deeply personal yet universally resonant journey through shadow, spirit, and the power of music to connect.
