Searows, the project of Pacific Northwest singer-songwriter and guitarist Alec Duckart, has returned with “Dirt,” a stark and haunting new single that points the way toward his upcoming album Death in the Business of Whaling, out January 23, 2026 via Last Recordings On Earth. Released today alongside a striking black-and-white video by Karlee Boon and Marlowe Ostara, the track follows earlier singles “Dearly Missed” and “Photograph of a Cyclone,” deepening the emotional world of the record.

“Dirt” wrestles openly with mortality and acceptance. Duckart describes the song as an attempt to live honestly in the face of inevitability, acknowledging that everything ends while still choosing to remain present. It’s a sentiment that feels both fragile and quietly defiant, carried by Searows’ intimate voice and aching guitar lines.

The album marks a major step forward for Duckart. While his 2022 debut Guard Dog was written, recorded, and self-produced in his Portland bedroom, the new record was shaped in a converted horse barn outside Seattle, working with co-producer Trevor Spencer. That expanded setting brings a wider sense of space and scale to his already deeply personal songwriting.

To celebrate the release, Searows will also play a series of in-store shows in New York, Los Angeles, Portland, and Seattle later this month.
