Silversun Pickups have returned with “New Wave,” the first preview of their upcoming seventh studio album, Tenterhooks, arriving February 6 via New Machine Recordings. According to frontman Brian Aubert, the track set the tone for the entire project. “It was the first song we recorded, and it set the template,” he explains, describing its surging guitars as a metaphor for an unstoppable force you can only brace for.
Reuniting with producer Butch Vig, the band—Aubert, Nikki Monninger, Christopher Guanlao, and Joe Lester—crafted a tight, ten-song record designed to fit on a single vinyl. Aubert calls it “impatient, apprehensive, and more aggressive,” shaped by global uncertainty and his own health scare that briefly cost him hearing in one ear.
Tenterhooks promises rawer edges and emotional immediacy, from the hard-hitting opener “New Wave” to the string-streaked “Long Gone.” The band has also announced a 30-date 2026 tour, marking a powerful next chapter for the Los Angeles quartet. After 25 years, Silversun Pickups sound as urgent—and inspired—as ever.
