What happens when being watched is no longer part of the job—and becomes the nightmare?
From the creative team behind The Blair Witch Project comes The Influencer Project, a new found-footage thriller that swaps the woods of Maryland for the very modern world of social media, followers, and parasocial obsession.
British beauty and lifestyle influencer Chiara King stars as a fictionalized version of an online celebrity whose carefully curated life begins to unravel during a trip to Copenhagen. She arrives with a documentary crew ready to capture an unfiltered look at the business of internet fame. But someone else is capturing her every move, too.
When an obsessive stalker closes in, the documentary takes a disturbing turn. Cameras that were supposed to document her life suddenly become evidence—and the distinction between fan and predator starts to disappear.
The film draws on King’s own experiences with stalking, adding an uncomfortable layer of realism to a story about a world where millions of strangers can feel like they know you.
Co-creator Eduardo Sánchez and producer Gregg Hale, the team behind the 1999 horror landmark The Blair Witch Project, return to the found-footage format with director Mike Nybroe making his feature directorial debut.
The Influencer Project arrives in UK and Irish cinemas on October 16.
The Blair Witch taught us that sometimes the camera shouldn’t be turned off.
Now, the camera is everywhere.
