A new chapter begins for Martin Doherty and Jonny Scott as they unveil The Leaving, a project rooted in decades of friendship and creative chemistry. Their debut album Ultimate Buzz arrives April 24 via Virgin Records, marking a bold step beyond their work with bands like CHVRCHES and Mogwai.
Leading the announcement is “Fluoxetine,” a haunting, emotionally raw single that confronts grief head-on. Written and produced by the duo, the track channels insomnia, hallucination, and fleeting moments of clarity into a powerful meditation on loss and resilience. It’s a song about wanting to carry someone else’s pain—even when you feel unequipped to do so.
Following earlier releases “Pray” and “Saved,” The Leaving’s sound feels both intimate and expansive, forged in personal upheaval yet strengthened through connection. Their music captures that fragile moment when sorrow begins to transform into something enduring.
