Experimental indie rock icons Deerhoof have announced a hotly anticipated vinyl reissue of their landmark 2007 album Friend Opportunity. Set for release on November 7, 2025, via Joyful Noise Recordings, the reissue celebrates one of the band’s most influential records with fresh artwork and exclusive remixes.
All physical orders include a bonus flexi disc featuring a fuzzed-out remix of “The Perfect Me” by This is Lorelei (Nate Amos) and an exclusive rework by Body Meat. Amos described the project as both daunting and rewarding: “It’s a much greater challenge to remix a song you’ve been listening to for a decade-plus… Getting to peek under the hood of a song I studied so intently years ago is a blessing.”
The Friend Opportunity reissue arrives on striking Hot Pink vinyl in a deluxe gatefold jacket. Fans will also get to revisit David Shrigley’s original multiple album covers, first created for the 2007 CD release, now collected in the LP’s inner sleeves.
Originally released on Kill Rock Stars, Friend Opportunity marked a new chapter for Deerhoof, written by Satomi Matsuzaki, John Dieterich, and Greg Saunier after the departure of guitarist Chris Cohen. Much of the album was self-recorded in their Bay Area homes, with additional sessions at Tiny Telephone in San Francisco and New, Improved Recording in Oakland.
Nearly two decades later, Friend Opportunity still stands as one of Deerhoof’s most adventurous works. Its blend of playful experimentation, symphonic scope, and fearless reinvention continues to resonate with fans and newcomers alike—making this reissue a must-have for collectors of indie rock vinyl.
