The undead just got a lot more dangerous. John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando has received its second free update, Retrieval, and Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment are packing it with new ways to run, gun, and panic your way through the zombie apocalypse.

The star of the update is Retrieval Mode, a frantic race to grab relics and reach extraction before the undead overwhelm you. The catch? Noise attracts the terrifying Sludge—and he definitely isn’t there to lend a hand.

Retrieval Mode arrives across four maps: Church of the Damned, High Octane, Impasse, and Demon Bait. It also introduces the Goblins, nasty little creatures that attack in packs and can revive their fallen buddies as long as one survives.

Thankfully, there’s plenty of new hardware to fight back with. The Le Clairon assault rifle, Flamethrower, Thunderstick, and Saw Trap join the arsenal, while new movement options like Dash, Trials Season 2, PC local servers, and vehicle and bot improvements add even more chaos to the mix.

Want to look good while everything falls apart? Cosmetic Pack 2 brings Sludge-inspired character skins, headgear, weapon and vehicle skins, plus new profile titles and icons. It’s included with the Bloody Season Pass.

And there’s a Fortnite crossover on the way. Walter Irons arrives in Fortnite on September 5 at 8 PM ET / 5 PM PT / 2 AM CEST for players who own the Epic Games Store version of Toxic Commando.

Best of all, Retrieval is free for everyone and available now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.

If your zombie-slaying muscles have been getting rusty, Toxic Commando just gave you a pretty compelling reason to dust off the shotgun.
