What happens when the soundtrack becomes the monster? Find out when V/H/S/Mixtape, the ninth entry in the popular found-footage horror franchise, premieres on Shudder Friday, October 9.

This time, music and sound are at the center of the nightmare. The anthology mixes cosmic horror, psychological terror, outrageous splatter and practical effects into a collection of stories where rhythm can haunt you, possess you—or completely destroy you.

The lineup is seriously stacked. Filmmakers Ernest Dickerson, RZA, David Moreau and Renee Zhan each bring their own twisted vision to the mixtape. Zhan’s segment even features original puppets from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.

Adding another layer to the experiment are original music-video interludes from filmmaker and musician Flying Lotus, plus a brand-new music video from debut filmmaker Tobias Forge. And because apparently this nightmare needed even more noise, shock-metal legends GWAR also make an appearance.

With horror, music, practical effects and cult-cinema weirdness all cranked to eleven, V/H/S/Mixtape looks ready to put a very different spin on the found-footage formula.

Press play. Turn down the lights. And maybe don’t wear headphones.
