Indie horror darling White Knuckle is leveling up. The acclaimed speed-climbing horror roguelite from New Mexico’s three-person team, Dark Machine Games, alongside publisher DreadXP, is set to receive its first major content update on September 29th—and it’s a big one.
Dubbed The Abyss Update, this expansion introduces an entirely new region with three unique levels, each crawling with unsettling inhabitants. Among them lurks The Face, a terrifying new evolution of The Mass, ready to relentlessly pursue climbers desperate for escape. But not all discoveries are hostile—players can uncover Artifact Items, powerful treasures that swap out traditional Perks and dramatically alter gameplay strategies.
Veteran climbers who’ve already mastered the Silos, Pipeworks, and Habitation will also find plenty of reasons to return. The update adds unlockable shortcuts that provide faster, riskier ascents through Silos and Pipeworks, as well as expanded levels, fresh Perks, hidden secrets, and more.
For the uninitiated, White Knuckle places you in the role of a lone climber scaling the decaying Substructure 17. Success hinges on carefully balancing stamina, supplies, and gear, all while evading grotesque entities in the shadows. One slip—or one ounce of greed too many—and you’ll plummet to your doom.
With The Abyss Update, the climb grows deeper, deadlier, and more rewarding. Horror fans craving a mix of tension, strategy, and vertical survival won’t want to miss this next descent.
The Abyss Update launches September 29th.
