Bungie, the acclaimed studio behind Halo and Destiny, has officially pulled back the curtain on Marathon, its upcoming team-based extraction shooter. During the Marathon Gameplay Reveal Showcase, fans got their first glimpse at Alpha gameplay and the treacherous world of Tau Ceti IV.
In Marathon, players become cybernetic mercenaries known as Runners, scavenging a lost colony for high-value loot while fending off rival crews and hostile forces. Each match is a high-stakes extraction where survival means keeping your hard-earned gear. Teams of three battle for dominance, with Bungie’s signature gunplay bringing a tactical edge to every firefight.
Set in the haunting remains of Tau Ceti IV, where humanity mysteriously vanished, the game mixes fast-paced combat with exploration and rich lore. Players will also be able to venture to the ominous Marathon ship orbiting the planet for even greater rewards—and risks.
Marathon launches September 23, 2025, on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S with full cross-play and cross-save support. Until then, players can join the official Marathon Discord to sign up for Closed Alpha access, participate in Q&As, and influence development through direct feedback.
Bungie capped off the reveal with a cinematic short directed by Oscar-winner Alberto Mielgo (Love, Death + Robots), setting the tone for Marathon’s poetic and mysterious universe.
With a focus on seasonal storytelling, ranked play, and community events, Bungie is aiming to make Marathon more than a game—it’s a living, evolving world.
