A24 is gearing up for one of its most buzzed-about releases: Mother Mary, David Lowery’s upcoming “epic pop melodrama” arriving in April 2026. Known for A Ghost Story and The Green Knight, Lowery now turns his eye toward the emotional chaos of fame, creativity, and reinvention.
Anne Hathaway stars as Mother Mary, a globally adored pop icon who abruptly walks off her tour amid an existential spiral. Fleeing to the countryside, she reconnects with Sam—played by Michaela Coel—a celebrated fashion designer and longtime collaborator. Their renewed partnership becomes the heart of the film, especially as they obsess over creating one extraordinary dress. Expect the story to unfold through performance sequences, flashbacks, and increasingly surreal, tension-filled moments between the two women.
Hunter Schafer joins the cast as Hilda, with Jessica Brown Findlay, Sian Clifford, and FKA twigs rounding out the ensemble. The music pedigree is equally stacked: Daniel Hart returns for the score, while Jack Antonoff, Charli XCX, and FKA twigs contribute original songs. Early impressions hint at a vivid exploration of art, image-making, and the emotional price of transformation—more dreamlike drama than traditional horror.
