Beyond Type 1, the global nonprofit dedicated to improving life with diabetes, has launched The Beyond Type—its first awareness campaign in India. Timed with Giving Tuesday, the initiative marks the organization’s expanded commitment to a country that is home to the world’s largest population of children and teens living with type 1 diabetes. With awareness still low and many diagnosed too late, the campaign aims to confront stigma and spotlight lived experiences.

Unveiled through a joint Instagram post from co-founder Nick Jonas, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Beyond Type 1—collectively reaching 135 million followers—The Beyond Type showcases powerful stories of people thriving with type 1 diabetes. From 13-year-old karate champion Mehrin Rana to dancer and actor Indu Thampy, these voices highlight that diabetes does not define who they are.

“I know for myself how diabetes doesn’t have to limit you,” said Jonas. “We’re here in India to help make that possible for everyone.”

The campaign pairs awareness with on-the-ground impact. Beyond Type 1 is collaborating with local partners such as HRIDAY, UDAAN, Blue Circle Diabetes Foundation and others to distribute resources that support early detection and improve long-term care in high-need communities.

“India has extraordinary people living with type 1 diabetes, yet their stories are rarely heard,” added Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

Through its growing initiatives, Beyond Type 1 has already reached 3 million people in India—advancing a future where no one faces type 1 diabetes alone.
