“Your best friendship is worth fighting for.”

That powerful message anchors Forgotten Island, a vibrant new original film from DreamWorks Animation that blends fantasy, culture, and heartfelt storytelling.

From the studio behind iconic friendships in How to Train Your DragonShrek, and The Wild Robot, this latest story centers on Jo and Raissa—two lifelong best friends facing the uncertainty of growing apart after high school.

Voiced by H.E.R. and Liza Soberano, the pair spend their final night together before stumbling upon a mysterious portal. It transports them to Nakali, a breathtaking island filled with magical creatures rooted in Filipino folklore.

But the adventure quickly turns urgent. To return home, Jo and Raissa may have to give up the memories of their friendship—raising the emotional stakes beyond survival. Along the way, they’re joined by Raww, a lovable weredog voiced by Dave Franco, and a group of unlikely allies. Standing in their way is the terrifying Manananggal, voiced by Lea Salonga.

Directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, and produced by Mark Swift—the team behind Puss in Boots: The Last Wish—the film promises a striking mix of stylized animation and emotional depth.

With a standout cast that also includes Jenny Slate, Manny Jacinto, and Jo Koy, Forgotten Island feels both globally appealing and culturally grounded.

At its core, this is a story about change—how friendships evolve, and what it takes to hold onto them. And with its emotional premise and dazzling world, Forgotten Island may be one of DreamWorks’ most meaningful adventures yet.

📅 In theaters September 25.
