Scream Factory is bringing cult horror favorite Motel Hell back to shelves with a new Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD SteelBook arriving May 12, 2026. The release upgrades Kevin Connor’s twisted 1980 horror comedy with a native 4K presentation sourced from a 2023 scan of the original camera negative, delivering the bizarre classic in its best home-video format yet.

Collectors can expect Dolby Vision support with HDR10 compatibility, a 1.85:1 widescreen transfer, English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 stereo, and English SDH subtitles. The package also includes an impressive lineup of bonus content carried over from earlier Scream Factory editions. Fans will find multiple audio commentaries with Connor, behind-the-scenes documentaries, cast interviews, retrospective featurettes, still galleries, and the original theatrical trailer.

Motel Hell remains one of horror cinema’s strangest cult sensations. The film follows Farmer Vincent Smith and his sister Ida as they lure unsuspecting travelers to their rural motel before transforming them into the secret ingredient behind Vincent’s award-winning smoked meats. Mixing satire, gore, and absurd comedy, the movie became legendary for its chainsaw finale and unforgettable pig-mask imagery.

Originally made on a modest budget, the movie earned midnight-movie status thanks to Rory Calhoun’s chilling performance, Nancy Parsons’ manic energy, and its gleeful parody of backwoods slashers like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Roger Ebert praised the film’s balance of horror.
