The name’s Bond — James Bond — and he’s back in a way gamers have never seen before.

007 First Light, developed by IO Interactive and published with Amazon MGM Studios, launches globally today, reimagining the world’s most famous spy as a 26-year-old MI6 recruit still learning when to shoot, bluff, or improvise his way out of danger.

This isn’t seasoned superspy Bond — it’s an origin story built from the ground up. Players follow a young recruit through MI6’s elite training program, rising toward the legendary 00 status through infiltration, investigation, and classic Bond-style ingenuity. Early reception is strong, with the game earning an 88 on both OpenCritic and Metacritic.

The presentation leans full cinematic. The original theme, “First Light,” is co-created by Lana Del Rey and David Arnold, setting a smoky, orchestral tone for a globe-trotting espionage thriller that blends stealth, spectacle, and choice-driven missions.

Behind the action is IO’s signature design philosophy: multiple solutions, high-stakes environments, and a toolbox of gadgets from Q-Branch that let players improvise like a true field agent. One moment it’s quiet infiltration, the next it’s chaos in a luxury casino or a high-speed escape in a gadget-loaded Aston Martin.

Bond is back — but this time, he’s learning on the job.
