If you like your fairy tales dark, stylish, and impossible to pin down, Good Manners deserves a spot on your watchlist.
Filmmakers Juliana Rojas and Marco Dutra reunite after Hard Labor to deliver a genre-defying gothic fable that blends arthouse drama, horror, and biting social commentary into one unforgettable experience. Set in São Paulo, the story follows Clara, a lonely nurse hired by the enigmatic Ana to care for her unborn child. As the two women form an unexpected connection, a full moon transforms their lives in ways neither could imagine.
With breathtaking cinematography from Zama‘s Rui Poças, Good Manners feels like Disney by way of Jacques Tourneur before evolving into a wildly original werewolf tale. Beneath the supernatural thrills lies a moving exploration of class, race, and modern Brazilian society.
The new Blu-ray is packed with extras, including an insightful commentary by film critics Shelagh Rowan-Legg and Carolyn Mauricette, a 12-page booklet featuring an essay by Nicolas Pedrero-Setzer, a behind-the-scenes featurette, and two additional short films from Rojas and Dutra.
Good Manners is now available for pre-order, with a limited-edition slipcover exclusively offered through Vinegar Syndrome and select independent retailers. For horror fans and lovers of bold international cinema, this is one release worth howling about.
