If you want an e-bike that feels more like a bicycle than a small motorcycle, the Aventon Soltera 3 ADV makes a compelling case.

At a claimed 37 pounds, it skips the bulk and complexity of many commuter e-bikes. Instead, you get a lightweight, Class 1 setup, a torque-sensing 250-watt rear-hub motor, and one of its biggest selling points: a nearly maintenance-free Gates Carbon Belt Drive.

That belt drive is a particularly smart choice for city riders. There’s no chain to lubricate, no greasy hands, and no oil on your work clothes. The catch? You get just one gear, so the Soltera 3 ADV is happiest on flat streets and gentle hills. Steeper climbs may have you wishing for a multi-speed drivetrain or a more powerful mid-drive motor.

The riding experience is deliberately natural. The torque sensor increases assistance based on how hard you pedal, while Eco, Sport, and Turbo modes provide up to 20 mph of pedal assist. There’s no throttle, keeping the bike firmly in Class 1 territory. For riders who enjoy pedaling but want a boost on the way to work, that’s a feature rather than a drawback.

At 37 pounds, the Soltera 3 ADV is also unusually manageable for an e-bike. Carrying it upstairs, fitting it into a storage space, or loading it onto a bike rack should be less of a chore than with heavier commuter models.

Aventon rounds out the package with hydraulic disc brakes, integrated front and rear lights, rear turn signals, 700c × 38c tires, and an IPX6 weather-resistance rating. The integrated 366.8 Wh battery is rated for up to 70 miles, although real-world range will vary considerably with assist level, terrain, weather, and rider weight. And because the battery isn’t removable, you’ll need to bring the whole bike to an outlet for charging.

The bottom line

The Soltera 3 ADV isn’t trying to be everything to everyone—and that’s its appeal. It’s a clean, quiet, lightweight commuter designed for paved urban riding, not hauling cargo or conquering steep hills.

For city riders who want simple, lightweight, low-maintenance electric assistance, it’s a refreshing alternative to the increasingly bulky e-bike crowd. If your commute is mostly flat, the Soltera 3 ADV may be just the right amount of e-bike.
