After 25 years, RuneScape is finally making the jump to consoles.
Jagex has officially launched RuneScape: Dragonwilds today on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 — marking the first-ever RuneScape game to arrive on a console.
Set in the unexplored continent of Ashenfall, Dragonwilds takes the familiar RuneScape universe in a new direction, blending survival, crafting, exploration, combat and a healthy dose of high fantasy. Players can venture out alone or team up with up to four players, gathering resources, building shelters, leveling skills and battling everything from Black Knights to dragons.
The game’s biggest twist is Anima, a mysterious wild magic flowing through Ashenfall. Players can use it to gather resources, unleash powerful spells and even pull off some wonderfully weird tricks — including turning bones into peaches and summoning a tornado of fish.
The launch also brings Scorned Wilderness, a major new update that wraps up the game’s first major storyline, the Kuldra Saga. Console players are getting all of the content released during the game’s 18-month Steam Early Access period, along with full cross-play.
And there’s plenty more ahead. Jagex has already announced Luminance, the game’s first major post-launch update, arriving in December, with a 2027 roadmap coming during October’s RuneFest.
After selling more than 1.5 million copies during Early Access, Dragonwilds has already proven there’s an audience for this new take on RuneScape.
Now, for the first time, that adventure is open to console players.
Ashenfall is waiting.
