Apple Original Films is heading to the roof of the world with Tenzing, a new feature film telling the remarkable true story of Tenzing Norgay and his historic ascent of Mount Everest alongside Edmund Hillary.
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Jennifer Peedom, the film stars Genden Phuntsok as Tenzing, Tom Hiddleston as Hillary, and Willem Dafoe as Colonel John Hunt. The cast also includes Caitríona Balfe, Thinley Lhamo and Tenzin Dalha.
But Tenzing is about more than conquering the world’s highest mountain. The film explores the cultural differences, class divisions and competing ambitions surrounding the expedition, while highlighting Tenzing’s deep spiritual connection to Chomolungma, the sacred mountain known to Western climbers as Everest.
With the encouragement of his wife, Dawa, and support from expedition secretary Jill Henderson, Tenzing fights for his place on the British climbing team. What follows is a dangerous journey that tests the limits of ambition, courage and trust.
Written by Luke Davies, with a story by Davies and Peedom, Tenzing brings a historic achievement to the screen while shining a light on the climber whose role in the expedition deserves to be remembered.
When Can You Watch It?
Tenzing opens in select theaters on October 9, 2026, before making its global streaming debut on Apple TV on October 16, 2026.
