The Rick and Morty universe is getting a brand-new spin-off, and this time the spotlight is on one of the show’s most memorable supporting characters.
Adult Swim has officially announced President Curtis, a new animated series starring Emmy Award winner Keith David, who reprises his fan-favorite role as President Andre Curtis. The show premieres July 26 at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT, immediately after the Rick and Morty season finale, with episodes streaming on HBO Max the following day.
Co-created by Rick and Morty executive producers Dan Harmon and James Siciliano, the series also features Stephanie Beatriz (Twisted Metal) and Jim Rash (Community).
Rather than following Rick Sanchez’s latest chaotic adventure, President Curtis shifts the focus to the commander-in-chief and his unconventional team as they handle the bizarre problems Rick simply can’t be bothered with. Expect everything from interdimensional diplomacy and paranormal investigations to unexplained phenomena that threaten reality itself.
The announcement was unveiled during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, where Harmon and Siciliano introduced the series to animation fans. Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen called Annecy the perfect place to debut the project, saying audiences will finally get to see just how entertaining President Curtis is when he’s leading the story.
For Rick and Morty fans, it looks like the multiverse is about to get a little bigger—and a whole lot more presidential.
