During the Gearbox Main Theater Show at PAX West, 2K and Gearbox Software unveiled major details about the endgame and post-launch roadmap for Borderlands® 4, arriving September 12, 2025 on PS5®, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch™ 2 release on October 3.
The endgame experience promises to keep players grinding long after the credits roll. A revamped Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode introduces five difficulty ranks without requiring campaign replays. Instead, curated mission challenges push builds to the limit, rewarding players with exclusive Firmware bonuses that enhance gear in powerful ways.
Weekly activities like Wildcards, Moxxi’s Big Encore Boss, and Maurice’s Black Market Machine add fresh loot hunts and matchmaking opportunities. Together, they ensure constant reasons to return to Kairos.
Post-launch, Gearbox will roll out both free and paid content. Free seasonal mini-events begin in October with Horrors of Kairos, alongside the return of Invincible Bosses—high-level battles with Legendary rewards.
Paid expansions include Story Packs and Bounty Packs. The first Story Pack, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, features fan-favorite Ellie in a cosmic horror-themed region, plus a new playable Vault Hunter. Bounty Packs expand lore with narrative-driven missions, new bosses, and Vault Cards packed with cosmetics and gear.
Pre-orders are now live, offering the Gilded Glory Pack with Legendary loot and a Vault Hunter Head cosmetic.
Borderlands 4 launches September 12, 2025, and it looks like Pandora’s spiritual successor, Kairos, is set to keep Vault Hunters busy for years to come.
