A decade after the release of their acclaimed collaborative album, Neko Case, k.d. lang, and Laura Veirs are revisiting one of its most powerful moments with a live rendition of Patti Smith’s “People Have The Power.”
The trio’s performance arrives ahead of the September 4 release of the 10th anniversary deluxe edition of case/lang/veirs — a timely return for an album whose themes of connection, resilience, and collective strength still resonate.
Originally released in 2016 during a period of intense political upheaval, case/lang/veirs remains a striking showcase of three singular artists joining forces. The album features 14 songs written collaboratively by Case, lang, and Veirs, with the trio sharing lead vocals and weaving together their unmistakable voices through lush harmonies, hypnotic rhythms, and deeply personal storytelling.
Reflecting on the album’s lasting impact, Veirs shared: “So much in the world has changed since this album first came out in 2016, but when I listen back, these songs still hold up to my ears. I’m proud of what we made together and am thankful for the opportunity to have been part of it.”
The deluxe edition also includes the previously unreleased track “Accidental Tattoo,” a song born from a fresh burst of creativity between the three artists. As lang explains, the track grew from Neko Case’s lyrics, with Veirs and lang shaping the arrangements before bringing the song to life in the studio.
The anniversary celebration comes as all three artists continue their own creative journeys. Laura Veirs recently announced her 14th solo album, Temple Songs, arriving August 14, while Neko Case continues to celebrate her latest release, Neon Grey Midnight Green, with upcoming tour dates this fall.
Ten years on, case/lang/veirs stands as a reminder of what can happen when three remarkable voices come together — and “People Have The Power” still delivers its message loud and clear.
