Chicago psych-rock trio Daisychain leans into the darker side of ’90s grunge with “Tar,” a slow-burning, distorted new track that explores the weight and complexity of grief.

Built around thick guitar tones, atmospheric drums and layered vocal harmonies, “Tar” lives up to its name. The track moves with a heavy, almost suffocating rhythm, balancing moments of raw intensity with a deeply melancholy edge. It’s a sound that feels both familiar and refreshingly personal.

Bassist and vocalist Nickole Regala describes the song as macabre but deeply sensitive, with subtle, unsettling sounds tucked beneath the heavier guitar layers. The result is a track that steadily builds without losing its emotional pull.

“Tar” was produced, mixed and mastered by Chicago producer, engineer and multi-instrumentalist Noam Wallenberg, whose credits include Vulfpeck, A$AP Rocky and Mac Miller.

The single follows Daisychain’s 2025 debut album, All In A Name, produced by renowned engineer Sylvia Massy (Tool, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Prince). The record showcased the trio’s adventurous approach to psych and blues rock, mixing soulful vocals and garage-rock energy with unexpected touches of woodwinds, chimes, pump organs and synthesizers.

Formed in 2017, Daisychain features Regala, Frankie Sripada and Sophia Williams. Since releasing their debut, the band has kept busy on the road, playing shows across the country and making its European debut.

The group will continue touring the Southern U.S., with stops throughout Texas and Florida, before returning home for a Chicago show on December 5.

With “Tar,” Daisychain proves that sometimes the heaviest music isn’t about volume. It’s about everything you can’t quite shake.
