Superman’s Arctic hideaway is getting the HeroClix treatment—and it’s packed with comic-book nostalgia.
WizKids’ DC HeroClix Iconix: Fortress of Solitude Vol. 1 brings together the Man of Steel, two robotic allies, and some of the most recognizable treasures from his Kryptonian sanctuary. Priced at $59.99, the set is currently scheduled for October 28, 2026, although WizKids still lists a broader Q4 release window. In other words, the date is approaching, but it isn’t set in stone.
A Giant Key and Some Familiar Faces
The star of the box is Superman in his classic costume, hoisting an enormous yellow key inspired by the cover of Action Comics #241 from 1958. It’s a deep-cut comic reference that doubles as a striking tabletop centerpiece.
He’s joined by the silver-and-red Superman Robot and Kelex, Superman’s golden robotic caretaker. Together, the trio brings both muscle and tactical support to the battlefield, with abilities that reward smart team building.
But the Fortress wouldn’t be complete without its strange and wonderful technology. The set includes the Phantom Zone Projector, which can temporarily isolate characters from the wider fight, and a miniature Bottled City of Kandor, complete with special movement rules—and a potentially painful consequence if the object is destroyed.
Kryptonian History Meets Tabletop Strategy
There’s more than nostalgia in the box. Two special FX bases introduce Jor-El and Lara, Superman’s parents, and the dangerous Black Mercy alien plant. One offers support and defensive benefits; the other can disrupt an opposing character.
Three one-shot cards—Crush Down, Heroes of the Past, and Last Day of Krypton—add further tactical options, rounding out a collection that blends Superman lore with practical gameplay choices.
Just don’t expect a miniature Fortress building. Despite the name, this release focuses on the characters, artifacts, and effects associated with Superman’s secret sanctuary rather than recreating the entire structure.
Collector Appeal, With a Release-Date Asterisk
WizKids is leaning into the collector side of Iconix, too. The box features icy blue artwork, a prominent Superman emblem, and the vintage comic cover that inspired the oversized-key sculpt. It’s designed to look good on display before the miniatures ever hit the map.
And what about Vol. 2? For now, that remains a mystery. More robots, creatures, and Kryptonian technology would make natural additions, but no follow-up has been confirmed.
The bottom line: At $59.99, Fortress of Solitude Vol. 1 brings together classic Superman imagery and gameplay pieces with distinctive abilities. Whether you’re building a Kryptonian-themed team or collecting memorable DC miniatures, there’s plenty here to explore.
Just remember: October 28 is the current target, not a guaranteed delivery date. WizKids’ store also charges when you place your preorder and may hold combined orders until every item is available, so check the shipping terms before adding other releases to your cart.
