The Force is getting a fresh look. With Star Wars approaching its 50th anniversary in 2027, Hasbro is giving its popular six-inch Black Series action figures a makeover — and collectors have plenty to look forward to.
Dubbed the “New Era,” the refresh introduces updated branding and redesigned packaging, kicking off with a six-figure Saga collection celebrating George Lucas’s original six films. Preorders opened October 15, with releases planned for spring 2027.
Six Films, Six Fan-Favorite Picks
The opening wave takes a trip across the galaxy, featuring Queen Amidala from The Phantom Menace, Anakin Skywalker from Attack of the Clones, and a Galactic Marine from Revenge of the Sith.
The original trilogy gets its share of the spotlight, too, with Luke Skywalker in his X-wing pilot gear, IG-88 from The Empire Strikes Back, and Tessek, Jabba the Hutt’s notoriously dishonest accountant, from Return of the Jedi.
Accessories add extra display possibilities, from Anakin’s blue lightsaber and Luke’s removable flight helmet to IG-88’s weapons and Tessek’s blaster. Queen Amidala’s elaborate royal look also brings a striking change of silhouette to the lineup.

A Packaging Upgrade Worth Displaying
The figures aren’t the only things getting attention. Larger display windows, angled side panels, film-specific title bars and connecting character artwork give the boxes a sharper, more shelf-friendly look. Hasbro is also dropping “The” from the line’s name, making it simply Black Series.
Want the whole saga in one shot? A six-figure multipack takes inspiration from classic VHS movie collections, with individual sleeves featuring artwork for each film and an outer box designed to evoke a miniature Star Wars library. Nostalgia, meet collector shelf.
There’s More on the Way
Hasbro has also previewed a separate 50th-anniversary carded figure program, including Kenner-inspired packaging and a Stormtrooper with adjustable height, toe articulation and a holster. That extra articulation could help collectors give their ranks of Imperial troops a little more personality.
The Stormtrooper program is separate from the opening six-figure launch, and its preorder date has not yet been announced.
A New Era for Collectors?
For now, Hasbro’s anniversary plans offer a little something for everyone: fresh packaging, a balanced lineup spanning six movies and a healthy dose of retro nostalgia.
The company has also hinted that the six-film approach could inspire future annual assortments, potentially making this refresh more than a one-off birthday celebration.
With spring 2027 on the horizon, Black Series is getting ready to celebrate half a century of Star Wars in style — one six-inch figure at a time.
