Two decades after its debut, Guild Wars is getting a major new adventure. Guild Wars Afterlife introduces an ever-changing dungeon, skill-drafting combat, and a mysterious new story set deep within the Mists.

It’s been a long time coming for Guild Wars fans. ArenaNet and development partner 2weeks are bringing the first new premium DLC to the beloved MMORPG in nearly 20 years with Guild Wars Afterlife, arriving January 13, 2027, on PC, Steam, iOS, and Android.

The adventure takes players beyond Tyria and into Xotecha, a mysterious land hidden within the Mists. There, the Order of Moonless Night needs help fighting a growing threat from Nightmares and the mysterious Cult of Odran. At the center of the adventure is the Unformed, an ever-changing dungeon designed to make every run different.

The biggest addition is a new skill-drafting combat system. Players begin each run with a starting loadout and earn opportunities to select new abilities after successful encounters. Skills aren’t restricted to a character’s primary or secondary professions, opening the door to some unusual builds, including combinations of elite skills from entirely different professions.

The dungeon itself promises plenty of variety, with shifting sequences of maps, enemies, and bosses across jungles, cenotes, and floating ruins. Players can tackle the challenge with friends or bring along henchmen, while completing runs unlocks both dungeon-specific upgrades and permanent rewards usable throughout the game.

For longtime fans, the appeal is obvious: a fresh reason to revisit a classic, with new systems and a story that expands the world beyond its familiar boundaries.

Guild Wars Afterlife launches January 13, 2027. Players can pre-purchase now for a discounted $23.99 (USD/EUR), with regional pricing varying by platform. Pre-purchases also include the ancestral-themed Vestments of the Order costume. The standard price increases to $29.99 at launch.

After nearly 20 years, Guild Wars is opening another door into Tyria’s mysteries. This time, no two trips through the dungeon will be quite the same.
