MGM+ is bringing Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities back to the screen with a new four-part drama starring Kit Harington, François Civil and Mirren Mack—and the newly released trailer promises plenty of romance, intrigue and danger.
Set in London in 1782, the story follows Lucie Manette (Mack), whose world is turned upside down when she learns that her father, presumed dead for nearly two decades, may still be alive in Paris. Her search draws her into the orbit of Charles Darnay (Civil), a French émigré accused of treason, and Sydney Carton (Harington), a gifted but troubled lawyer who helps secure Darnay’s freedom.
What follows is a tangled love triangle, with Lucie caught between two strikingly similar men whose personalities—and destinies—could not be more different. As political tensions rise between Britain and France, their lives become increasingly intertwined in a story of love, sacrifice, tragedy and redemption.
Written by Daniel West (Gunpowder, Top Boy) and directed by Richard Clark (Outlander), the series is produced by Federation Stories in co-production with Federation Studio France and Thriker Films for MGM+ and the BBC.
A Tale of Two Cities premieres Sunday, September 6, with new episodes rolling out weekly on MGM+ across the U.S., Germany, Italy, Spain, the U.K., Belgium, the Netherlands and LATAM.
With a classic Dickensian tale, a starry cast and a love triangle at its center, this looks set to be one dramatic trip between London and Paris.
