Bill Murray is getting a Christmas upgrade. Paramount Home Media Distribution is bringing Richard Donner’s holiday comedy Scrooged (1988) to 4K Blu-ray (Purchase Link), celebrating the film’s 35th anniversary with a new restoration and more than 50 minutes of previously unreleased bonus content.
Murray stars as Frank Cross, a ruthless television executive preparing a massive live broadcast of A Christmas Carol. Unfortunately for Frank, Christmas Eve has other plans. A visit from three unconventional ghosts—and his former boss—forces him to take a hard look at the person he’s become.
Featuring Karen Allen, John Forsythe, Bobcat Goldthwait, Carol Kane, Robert Mitchum, and Alfre Woodard, Scrooged remains one of the more irreverent takes on Charles Dickens’ classic holiday story. It’s funny, occasionally dark, and packed with the kind of offbeat humor that has made it a seasonal favorite for generations.
The new 4K release features a fresh restoration of the film, a digital copy, and an audio commentary by director Richard Donner, appearing on disc for the first time. The collection also includes several new behind-the-scenes featurettes exploring the production, visual effects, and Bill Murray’s time on set.
Bonus Features Include:
- New 4K Restoration of the Film
- Audio Commentary by Director Richard Donner
- A Christmas to Remember
- Updating Ebenezer
- Bringing the Ghosts to Life
- The Look of Scrooged
- On the Set with Bill Murray
For fans who have made Scrooged part of their annual Christmas movie lineup, this looks like a welcome addition to the collection. A fresh 4K presentation and previously unreleased extras give this holiday favorite a good reason to return to the spotlight.
